As you know from my earlier post, I am working with the idea of compressing things into shapes. So as i have now done a sphere and a cube I am trying to develope the idea further. I thought of developing the ideas by maybe cutting into pieces in different ways, hollowing out areas etc. So this is what i worked on today! I really liked the results and I think that it will help me come up with other things aswell.

this is half of the sphere from my previous post. I hollowed it out just to see what it would look like and I thought it would be nice to try and associate the piece with the functional side of ceramics.

This is the box that I made first cut into sections. I really like these. I am going to try this shape with thrown pieces I think it will throw up some interesting elements that I could take into account.

This is a bowl i made with the left over scraps from hollwing out one half of my sphere. I really like the effect that it gives and it was so quick and easy to make!!things like this would make great christmas presents!!

I think I will continue with the idea of slicing and cutting as I quite like the effects it is giving me. I will also try making the pieces hollow instead of solid as it will be easier when it comes to the technical side of things ie quicker to dry and less likey to blow up in the kiln and no one like things exploding in the kiln. I think everyone that sees my pieces are making mental noted not to put any of their stuff near mine! It will also avoid alot of disapointment for myself in the longrun and it will be quicker all around. peace Out!x

ok so week four into the packaging project and I have to say I'm really enjoying it so far. I started working in clay last wednesday which i am delighted about. First I started by making a cube. The clay I got was too wet to throw with so while i let that dry a bit, I made a cube out of loads of bits of clay. I also made a hollow cylinder through it.

Last week I thought of the idea of making spheres that could end up as garden features or something. So I went and bought a ball and made a plaster mould of it. I made a two piece mold. I would fill each half of the mold with thrown cylinders and then join both halfs together. This is my first try at it.

Today we were told that we had to set up our own blog..we are supposed to use it as an online diary..upload photos on the projects as we work on them etc. So this is my first blog. Yay. Haha.

This is the third week into our first project. it runs for 8 or 9 weeks, to bring us up to the progress review. We have to make a piece which can be reproduced to make a small batch, inspired by packaging.  I think pictures are better then words so alot of this will be photos of my pieces and research.

I'm using cardboard boxes as my inspiration. I was in town one day when I came across some old cardboard boxes compressed together into a big cube. I loved the effect they gave. The boxes were so messy within this solid form. I decided to run with this idea for the rest of my project and my tutors were happy with it.

So I've been running with this concept for 2 weeks now and I think Ive come up with some pretty interesting stuff. These are pics from last week.

At our crtit Fiona suggested doing some ones that are hollow, so i focused on this this week.

So thats what I've been up to for the last 3 weeks!!il update soon when I get more work done!!xx
